Cancer can affect any part of the body – it is the rapid creation of abnormal cells that grow beyond their usual boundaries, and which can then invade adjoining parts of the body and spread to other organs (developing metastases), and metastases are the major cause of death from cancer. Cancer is one of leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. According to WHO (World Health Organization), the number of new cases of cancer is expected to rise by about 70% over the next 2 decades. Among women the 5 most common types of cancer are breast, colorectal, lung, cervix and stomach cancer. Among men, the 5 most common types of cancer are lung, prostate, colorectal, stomach and liver cancer. According to health experts, about third of cancer deaths are due to few behavioral and dietary risk factors including obesity (increased body mass index), low fruit and vegetable intake, limited physical activities, smoking and alcoholism. It means that every person can fight cancer by changing lifestyle and implementing anticancer diet. Lifestyle related factors are the most important and preventable.
Fight cancer by changing your diet
It is recommended to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and limit processed meat. Eat lighter and leaner by choosing low calorie foods and avoid fat from animal sources. Some experts recommend Mediterranean diet focuses on plant-based foods (fruits and vegetables), whole grains, legumes and nuts supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil.

According to scientists, cancerous cells are acidic and cancer cells thrive in an overly acidic environment. At the same time, healthy cells “like” alkaline environment and in constant acidic atmosphere it becomes impossible for healthy cells to regenerate. It is becoming obvious that by taking action to become more alkaline and implementing anticancer alkaline diet, we can dramatically increase obstacles for cancer cells multiplication and we can not only fight cancer grow but we can also sometimes decrease the size of the tumor.

Unfortunately fat cells in the body are active and produce hormones and proteins that are released into the bloodstream and can affect many parts of the body increasing the risk of different types of cancer. This is why maintaining healthy weight could decrease the risk of various types of cancer.

Fight cancer by avoiding smoking
Smoking has been linked to various types of cancer including cancer of the lung, mouth, throat, larynx, pancreas, bladder, cervix and kidney. Smoking women run a far higher risk of developing lung cancer than men – for each cigarette smoked, the danger is twice as high for women. Scientists suggested that the female sex hormone estrogen could make women more vulnerable.
Tobacco smoke contains several cancer-causing substances. Experts identified the nicotine in the cervical mucus of smoking women – it can lead to the development of cervical cancer (4-5 times more often than in healthy non-smoking women). It was also noted that smoking women are more likely to get cervical cancer if they become infected with HPV than are non-smoking women.
Early smoking (before age 17) could raise women’s risk of breast cancer. Smoking before menopause (especially before having children) could also increase the risk of breast cancer.
Unfortunately the vulvar cancer is also happening more frequently in smoking women. The main reason for it could be toxic reactions from tobacco elements.
Smoking also linked to skin cancer in women – more women smoke, the more likely they could have skin cancer.
Fight cancer by avoiding sun exposure
Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer. It is well known that prolonged sun exposure can damage the skin and can trigger cancerous transformations. Ultraviolet radiations (especially with unprotected skin) and repeated episodes of sunburn could increase the risk of malignant melanoma and other forms of skin cancer.
Fight cancer by avoiding dangerous viruses
