Most healthy women experience normal vaginal discharge that varies throughout the menstrual cycle and it can be changed from puberty to menopause. Every day vaginal cells produce normal bacteria and fluids and the volume of normal vaginal discharge is estimated about one teaspoon per day. Healthy vaginal discharge is normally odorless, white and/or transparent, thick and/or thin. Anyway, vaginal discharge color changes always have reasons and if it is accompanied by other symptoms such as a foul odor, itching, discomfort, pain, rash or sores, prompt medical attention is recommended.

Brown spotting is most often associated with old endometrial tissues – could be remains of your last period, could be damages (by infection or other diseases) endometrial cells, could be endometrium changed by hormones, medications, pregnancy or other conditions.

Chlamydia
Possible symptoms – loss of appetite, weight loss, discharge from anus, vaginal discomfort, fertility problems (infertility) and brown vaginal spotting.

Vulvovaginitis
Possible symptoms – pain in urethra, yellow vaginal discharge, vaginal dryness and brown vaginal spotting.

Menopause

Hormonal dysfunctions

Medications
Some medications can change the color of menstrual blood or trigger some unexpected brown spotting. This is especially true if woman is taking birth control pills or injectable steroids.

  • terconazole, Terazol, Zazole
