Health expert pay special attention to anti-aging foods but only few publish articles about aging food – all types of foods which can speed our aging. Bad quality foods (fast food, trans fats, sugar, processed carbohydrates like pasta, bread and baked food) can trigger chronic inflammation in the body which contributes to faster aging. Bad foods can damage collagen in the skin and cause wrinkles. At the same time, bad quality foods (age-accelerating foods) can trigger several diseases including heart disease, cancer and diabetes. If you avoid aging foods, you can keep your skin youthful and your body healthy.

Aging foods – sugar

It is recommended to avoid sugar as much as possible because increased use of sugar can trigger glycation – very specific process in the body which ends up with advanced glycation end products (AGEs). These products can damage skin’s collagen and speed up the aging process.
Sugar overuse can increase levels of insulin and leptin and decrease receptor sensitivity for both of these vital hormones – this is another major factor of premature aging and age-related chronic degenerative diseases such as heart disease. At the same time, usually sugar sticks to teeth encouraging bacteria, decay and unpleasant discoloration.

Personal diet with limited sugar is well-known key to longevity.

Aging foods – bad oils

Nowadays everybody knows that hydrogenated oils and hydrogenated fats should be avoided because they cause heart disease. It means healthy people should avoid cookies, crackers, chips, baked goods or anything else that has hydrogenated oil or trans-fats on the ingredients list. It would be also recommended to avoid olestra – the synthetic fat used to make non-fat potato chips and other snacks. Laboratory tests noted that olestra can bind with fat-soluble vitamins A, E, D and K and carotenoids (important antioxidant nutrients) and eliminate them from the body.

Health experts highlight that processed meat is usually high in saturated fats and contain nitrates – both are not healthy and easily lead to inflammation and can trigger several health problems including heart diseases. Trans fats should be avoided because they can raise so called “bad cholesterol”(LDL) and decrease “good cholesterol”(HDL) – increasing your risks for heart diseases.
Unhealthy fats could make the skin more vulnerable to UV damage causing premature aging. It is recommended to avoid products which contain hydrogenated oil and nitrates including hot dogs, bacon, pepperoni, potato chips and French fries. It should be mentioned that nitrates are not harmful, but they can convert to nitrite in the body, which in turn can form nitrosamines – powerful cancer causing chemicals. Scientists recommend extra vitamin C as it can prevent the conversion of nitrates to nitrosamines in the stomach.

Aging foods – meat

Choosing meat, the special attention should be paid to healthy meat – lean meat. Examples of lean meat are ground beef (at least 95% lean), turkey breast and chicken breast.
It is well known that fatty meat is high in saturated fats and it generates free radicals which damage healthy cells – triggering several dangerous diseases including cancer. Charred (burnt) meat contains pro-inflammatory hydrocarbons which are not healthy.
Sometimes you can have a burger but try to combine it with antioxidant-rich foods which can fight free radicals and prevent aging.
Generally speaking your healthy diet should include minimum meat and maximum vegetables and fruits.

Aging foods – alcohol

Excessive amounts of alcohol can cause excess of free radicals and speed up aging process (especially skin aging). But at the same time, moderate use of red wine can be beneficial for your health. While a glass of red will give you instant “wine mouth,” the acid in white wine damages your enamel and makes your teeth more prone to longer-lasting stains.

Aging foods – salty food

According to science, eating too much salt could speed up the aging process. , scientists have discovered for the first time. Sodium is known to raise the blood pressure and increase the risk of dangerous health conditions such as heart attacks and strokes. At the same time, salt may trigger inflammation and stimulate cellular aging.

“Lowering sodium intake (especially if you are overweight or obese) could slow down the cellular aging process that plays an important role in the development of heart diseases”.
